About Steve Swanston

I have sat in the seat. Now I help you build what gets you to the next level.

Thirty years as an operator. Three exits. Over $500M in combined exit value across the teams I have built. I work with founders and revenue leaders ready to stop running on instinct and start building something that scales without them.

The Story

I started as an operator, not a consultant.

For thirty years I have been in the seat. Not advising from a safe distance, but carrying the number, running the team, sitting in the board meeting, and being accountable for what happened next. COO. CRO. Acting President. I have done the work at every level of the revenue org and at every stage of company growth.

The companies span AI, fintech, SaaS, BaaS, and BPO. Some were founder-led and scrappy. Some were PE-backed and on a clock. Some were heading toward exit and needed the org tightened up fast. Three of them made it to successful exits, and the teams I built across that career have produced more than $500M in combined exit value.

I know what buyers look for. I know what they find. And I know what founders wish they had built earlier, because I have watched the gap show up in diligence more than once.

The founder's instinct got the company to revenue. To take it to scale, and through an exit, that instinct has to become a system other people can run.

That belief is the core of everything I do. Not because it sounds good in a deck, but because I have watched the transition happen in real time, and watched what breaks when it does not.

Philosophy

From hero to architect.

Most founders I work with are exceptional at selling. They know the product better than anyone, and they can win the deal themselves. The problem is that model does not scale, because it depends on them being in the middle of every deal.

The hero is indispensable by design. They make the key calls, close the hard deals, and solve the problems no one else can. The company has rewarded them for it, and the team has learned to bring everything hard to them.

The architect builds something different. Systems that produce outcomes without the architect present for every one. Decision rights that let the organization move without waiting. People hired against competencies, not chemistry. A cadence that surfaces problems while there is still time to fix them.

Building a system that produces outcomes without you is harder than being the person who produces them. It is different work, not less of it. And it is the only thing that scales.

The best operators want the founder to win.

I am based in Austin, Texas. I believe in natural medicine, in relationships built over years rather than quarters, and in the idea that the best networks are built long before you need them.

I am a Texas A&M Aggie. Process matters to me, people more so. The best operators are the ones who genuinely want the founders they work with to win.
